ice damage tree debris cleanup cost

Asked February 10, 2014, 11:04 AM EST

After our ice storm in December many of our agriculture producers are trying to cleanup pastures pecan orchards etc. What is the average price per acre or per hour to use a 65 - 70 hp tractor with a grapple bucket to clear downed limbs?

We have a survey of custom machinery rates in Missouri. While this specific equipment is not covered, tractor and loader had an average rate of $80 per hour. Also heavy equpment removal of old fences that is probably bigger equipment had an average rate of $120 per hour. Rates in this survey are a bit lower than what is needed to cover all costs of operation, especially depreciation. These 2 options are on each side of the type of work, risk and equipment investment. So, those rates should give you something to start the negotiations.
