Native bees and extreme cold

Asked January 29, 2014, 12:24 PM EST

Are this winter's unusually cold temps a problem for native bees (like mason bees in my backyard bee house)?

Yes, I think all insects (pests, native bees, honey bees) will be impacted to have a higher winter mortality due to the unusually cold temperatures this winter. Package bee (honey bees that are shipped inside a package) prices went up about $10 per package compared to last year.
