I am interested in starting a small 2-3 acre commercial watermelon farming operation. I am wondering if you could help me with the following information? What are a few of the better seeded and seedless varieties best to grow in Minnesota? Can you provide some rough estimates on how many watermelons or pounds can be grown on a given acre?

Otter Tail County Minnesota melons

Go to http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/fruit/#melon for more information om growing. Any type will do, however, the smaller the melon the more melons will be on the vine and the earlier they will mature. You need to check your seed sources but generally, if seed is available it should be fine. We cannot give a estimate on production since conditions will be out of our hands.
Good luck and have a great year.
