Brown lawn.....

Asked January 14, 2014, 2:48 PM EST

After the rain and snow, lawn is starting to look brown in many areas. Would this show a need for a nitrogen application, or a fertilizer with moss control?? Thank you once again for your help. Much appreciated. Art Dietz

This is called lawn gray snow mold from being damaged by the freeze in early December and has started to decompose. The lawn under the snow started rotting and smells bad.

Mow the lawn to remove the dead and rotting grass. Apply a light nitrogen fertilizer to start the regrowing.
