Fertilizing Hay Field

Asked December 28, 2013, 3:04 PM EST

I have a hay field in Marion County that I would like to fertilize in the spring. I'd like to fertilize with 16-16-16 but I am not sure how much I should spread per acre. So how much 16-16-16 should I spread per acre to fertilize my hay field? Is 16-16-16 the best fertilizer for my hay field? In what month should I fertilize, I was thinking March or April would be best? Thank you very much for the help.

I am glad you asked the question. You would first need to test your soil to know the amounts of nutrients that are there. Then compare your soil test to soil requirements and only add what is needed. 16-16-16 is rarley the solution. It is just a guess - guessing costs money.
