Poinsettias have white fuzzy spots

Asked December 6, 2013, 5:42 PM EST

The 2 poinsettias I purchased have white fuzzy spots on them. Is this a problem? I have a 7.5 foot Norfolk pine and a tall ficus that I want to keep disease free. Do the poinsettias have anything that my house trees can catch? Thanks very much for answering my question.

The white fuzzy spots could be mealy bugs. The links below describe ways to control and eliminate them and the last article describes many house plant pests and what to do about them in case the white spots are not mealy bugs. Or the white spots may be white flies.
