Hi, I'm working on identifying plant and geographic features in a series of photographs I've taken mostly in Northern Baltimore County. In Rocks State Park and off the NCR trail near the meeting point of the Gunpowder and Little Falls I found a plant that looks just like schefflera growing wild, mostly in shallower soil near rocks. However I haven't been able to find any information on whether schefflera grows in the mid-atlantic. Could it be schefflera or something else? (sorry about the blurry photo)

Baltimore County Maryland

You are correct, Schefflera does not grow wild in Maryland. You may want to compare your photograph with photographs of Kalmia latifolia, Mountain Laurel. Be sure to walk the same path next spring in hopes of seeing some identification-confirming flowers.
