Is it ok to trim shrubs when the temperature is in the 40s (farenheit)?
The appropriate time of year (temperature, dormancy, growth behavior, flowering cycle, etc.) is usually based on the species of the shrub in question. Generally, you can prune most shrubs when they are fully dormant without doing lethal damage. Another rule of thumb: do not prune out more than 20-25% of a given limb or plant, unless you are doing major renovation of certain multi-trunked shrubs.
