we have a hornets nest about 3 times the size of a football apx 30feet up a cherry tree............i don't want it there... do you/would you remove it??
Montgomery County Maryland
The hornet nest may have already been abandoned, since all the male hornets die at the first freeze. The queen (or queens) will survive, but none of them will return to the same nest. Each queen will seek a sheltered place to overwinter and establish a new nest in a different location next spring.
Some people collect abandoned hornet nests and carefully cut them in half in order to admire the intricate designs of the internal galleries.
Typically, homeowners pay a beekeeper to remove active nests, but you have the choice of simply allowing it to deteriorate in the tree or arrange for someone to climb the tree and remove it. We do not provide this service.
