How to cook beans
Can navy beans become difficult to cook if they are old? Recently, I made bean soup and followed the receipe of soaking over night and cooking for prescribed time. I cooked the soup even longer and turned off electric burner and left to heat even longer. The beans were tough and I then cooked for several more hours before they were edible. The beans were probably a year old. Do beans become difficult to become soft if they are old?
They may take a bit longer to soften up. From what I have read, the soaking period may need to be increased or as you did the cooking period.
