What is causing damage in upper branches of chestnut tree?

Asked November 19, 2013, 9:16 PM EST

Several of the upper branches of my chestnut tree have lost all the bark. I don't see any indication of insect damage. Too high for deer. Wind damage?

A fungal disease called "oak wilt" also attacks chestnuts. Visible damage begins on upper branches.
This is a serious problem, too much for a homeowner to tackle. Professional help is needed here.
