Our answer is a bit more complicated than you might imagine, which is o.k. because now is not the time to do anything about them.
Our first concern would be to make sure you absolutely have a problem with grubs. Many people assume they do when in fact they do not.
The only way to know for sure is to dig up a square foot area during the growing season and count how many grubs you find. If you find 8 or more, that would be on the high side.
There are newer less toxic grub products on the market, particularly those containing the active ingredient Chlorantraniliprole, however even that is still quite toxic to aquatic invertebrates, oysters and shrimp, (It is illegal in the state of New York to apply it within 100 feet of a water body)
so we would be hesitant to recommend it, especially as close as you are. For any pesticide you should always read the label carefully and follow instructions to the letter. For more information about grub control products, including Chlorantraniliprole, which is the active ingredient in the newest formulations of GrubEx, contact the National Pesticide Information Center at 1-800-858-7378.
