Evergreen tree 14 years old 20 feet tall. Inside of branches show brown needles. Is this normal at this time of year? It seems rather extensive . Brown needles are more extensive on lower branches.Tree is in partial shade.

Washington County Maryland trees and shrubs blue spruce browning needles

We have been getting reports around the state of brown needles on blue and norway spruce, Douglas Fir, etc. At this point the brown needles are being attributed to a type of environmental damage. The good news is that the tips of the tree look healthy. However, the tree may look thinner when the needles drop. All you can do is monitor the tree for other symptoms. If possible keep well watered during dry periods.
