Wintering roses

I have Knock Out Roses. I cut the roses back to about 8 inches from the ground. Than I filled small wooden baskets with dry leaves and cover the roses. Is this a good methods for roses in the area I live in.

This is a good start, so long as the leaves are not packed to tight as to cause the canes to become water logged. See this guide for more info:
