mowing height

Asked October 30, 2013, 9:02 AM EDT

I just read that we should cut the lawn short on the final cut of the season. Is it ever a good idea to mow the lawn really short? Thank you.

There's no reason to mow at a lower cut height in fall. The final lawn mowing should be at the same cut height (2.5 - 3.25 inches) that you've been mowing all season. After it becomes dry/brown dormant, you can opt to cut it to a lower height if desired.

PS
It is never a good idea to mow a Kentucky bluegrass lawn really short (shorter than 2.0 inches) while it is green.
