Prowl H2O at 1-2 quarts per acre with 10-20 gallons of water applied in January should give good control of Field Sand Burs for about six months and to my knowledge is the cheapest product to use. It cost around $125 per 2.5 gallons. There are some other products in smaller quantities such as Amaze, but tend to be considerably more expensive. Always read and follow label directions when applying these products. If you need further assistance please feel free to call 361-364-6234

Prowl H2O and other pre-emergents can be applied now and will have an effect on the germination in the spring, however, some of the sand burs will grow later in the spring and summer and the effect of the herbicide will be weakened over time, so by applying in January your effectiveness " should" carry into early summer. The answer to your question is yes, especially if you are targeting other weeds also.
