how do I best put my perennial garden to bed for the winter, especially shrub roses ?

Well, it depends on what kinds of perennials you have, and what kinds of shrub roses you have. Some perennials are very hardy and need little or no care, while others need to be babied a bit - or a lot.

Shrub roses too, vary by type. If they are large, and not newly planted, they are probably pretty hardy. If you've just planted them this year - well we need to know what they are in order to help you take care of them.
