Is it ok to feed black walnut meat to chickens?

Would the tannins in the walnuts be too toxic for the birds? What amounts would be safe?

I cannot find any research dealing with the use of walnuts in poultry diets. The tannins would definitely limit its use. There was one study that looked at the Mg availability of walnuts, but it was very small amounts. There has been some research on the use of walnut oil, but again only very small amounts are used.
