Pembina County North Dakota

The frost itself is not so much of a worry. Most lawns in North Dakota are predominantly Kentucky bluegrass and are extremely winter hardy. They are under minimal stress from a hard frost.

The biggest concern is that you want to make a clean cut. You need to wait until the frost on the turf has melted and the turf blades are dry.

Keep in mind it is bad for a lawn to be tall during winter. A tall lawn will attract rodents and can mat down, leading to mold in early spring. So make sure your lawn is neatly trimmed before winter sets in. Although we usually recommend cutting your turf tall (approx 2.5 to 3 inches), you may wish to lower your mower down to about 2.0 inches for the last cut. Let me know if you have any questions.
