plating grass seed

Can I overseed my lawn in Fall (late Oct.) or is it best to wait till Spring? When in Spring? I live in Salem.

Hi there,

I apologize for the slow response to your question. In general, the best time to plant a lawn from seed is when temperatures are favorable for rapid seed germination and grass growth. So, you want to try to time your planting so there will be 6 to 8 weeks of good growing weather after seeding. It is probably too late to seed your lawn now, so I would wait until spring of next year. The period from early May to approximately
mid-June is a pretty good time to plant. Earlier plantings germinate and develop slowly, so there rarely is any advantage to planting early.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
