Hi, I live in Ramsey Minnesota. I would like to know how to winterize my yard to prevent winter kill . How short should I cut my grass for the final cut? what kind of winter fertilization should I use for the winter? and when can I add lime to my grass , or should I ? Briefly, this is a good time to apply nitrogen fertilizer. Make sure your lawn is well watered up until frost, and do not mow it really short for the rest of this year.

You should only add lime to your soil if it is needed and the only way to know that is wiwth a soil test:
