Are the ashes of a black walnut still toxic for gardening or is the juglone destroyed when burned? -Katherine

Burning should destroy the juglone. I found 3 garden forums that stated the ash is safe to use on plants but no definitive answer. I would test putting the ash around a few plants before mixing it into a compost heap.

Thanks Evelyn!
