Should we use 2,4-D in a cattle pond?

Asked September 29, 2013, 4:27 PM EDT

We have lily pads in a cattle pond. We were considering using 2,4-D with ester to try to get rid of them. We have cattle drinking from this pond. Will this harm the cattle?

Although 2, 4-D is used for waterweed control, you need to review the label prior to application. If you can, you might wish to provide water from another source while treating the pond. There may be a withholding period (I have seen 15 days) prior to meat-animal harvest.
