overwintering a potted rose

Asked September 21, 2013, 11:30 AM EDT

I have a potted rose on my deck, which is the only place with enough sun. I need to protect the surface, so I planted the rose in a large, nondraining container with a three-inch layer of rock at the bottom. I can move the pot, but I don't have a dry place to overwinter it that has a light source. I was thinking of covering it with a clear, plastic cold frame. Do you think this would work?

A plastic cold frame will work, but don't forget to water the plant a little each month.
