Is there any problem with soil moving in the Grand Junction area? I'm referring to houses - foundations, basements, etc. having structural problems (like a lot of Colorado areas)
After dealing with this in Canon City, Co. I want to check out Grand Junction for possible relocation from Arizona.

Hello,

There can be expansive and reactive soils in certain areas within Mesa County Colorado. The best way to find out about the potential of your soils for expansion would be to utilize a tool like the web soil survey for the area you are interested in living. This can be found at the following link:
http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app/WebSoilSurvey.aspx
Type in the address of the area you are interested in, highlight the area with the AOI button, select the Soil Data Explorer tab, under that select the Soil Reports tab. At that time, on the left side you will have a list of options, select Soil Qualities and Features and click the view soil reports button.
That will give you the information you are looking for.
You can also contact a local engineer or the County Building Dept.:

I hope this information is helpful!
