Spear Grass elimination

Asked September 13, 2013, 3:00 PM EDT

I have 20 acre horse pasture of mixed native, burmuda grasses which has spear grass for the first time this year. I would like to know what I can do to get rid of it and prevent it from spreading. I am also interested in information on obtaining a license to spray herbicides/fertilizer,
Thank you,

Collin County Texas horses weed issues pastures and forages herbicides

In regards to obtaining your pesticide license I would contact your local county extension office or http://www.texasagriculture.gov (under licenses & registrations). Texas Winter grass or Spear grass is difficult to control especially in a grass mixture. Glyphosate (active ingredient in Roundup) is a herbicide option. Follow label instructions. I would also recommend a soil analysis. Texas winter grass can be an indication of poor soil fertility as well as overstocking.
