What type of demographic information should I collect on a program evaluation?
Demographic information has the capability to identify the respondent and may include sensitive information. For this reason, only collect demographic information if it is important to your evaluation questions. Before collecting this information think about what you plan to do with the information. If you can’t think of a specific use, don’t collect the information. Demographic information may help you report on your findings and can be used in data analysis. Common demographic variables collected include age, gender, race, residence (county, city, or state), educational background, and annual household income.
