Hello, We have a very large ornamental cherry tree in the front yard. We just noticed that one large branch is dead and has some type of fungus(?) on it. I am attaching a couple of photos. I would appreciate it if you could tell me what this is and whether it can be treated and with what. It is a beautiful tree and we would hate for it to die. Thank you so very much Styliani Simoneti

The branch in the photo is dead and has a fungus growing on it that grows on dead branches. This fungus will not hurt healthy branches, but it is always wise to keep dead wood removed. The question is why this branch died. Be alert for any other problems that your tree might have. Keep it well watered in time of drought. vw
