Squirrels Missing from Neighborhood

Asked August 31, 2013, 5:37 PM EDT

I have not seen any squirrels in my yard or neighborhood in the last month or two. Is there a reason for this? I have talked to a couple of other people, and they said the same thing. I love to watch the little rascals.

I'm not sure where your squirrels have gone. This is usually a fairly active time for squirrels, as they are gathering supplies for the winter. Perhaps a food source was lost in the past month, causing the squirrels to move on and look for food elsewhere. Did someone take down their bird feeders, or perhaps cut down a mast tree (oak, hickory, or beech tree)? Or perhaps the squirrels were removed from the area after they caused conflict for someone (getting into houses).
