Within the last two weeks I noticed that something was eating the leaves on my Columbine, leaving just the stems. This week something is eating all of the flowers on my Impatiens. These plants are near each other. Can you tell me what might be causing the problem and what I might do?

The culprit in both cases could be slugs. There is a columbine sawfly larva that will feed on columbine foliage, and they may be active now. Given the lateness of the season, and since we do not know exactly whom to blame, there is no control necessary.
