My hydrangeas finally had large flower buds on them this year. However, only the outer edges of the buds actually blossomed into flowers. The center of each bud never bloomed. Any thoughts on why? Thanks!

You probably have a variety known as a lacecap hydrangea. Lacecap hydrangeas are characterized by their unique blossoms. The perimeter of the flower has open blooms, whereas the center is made up of small bud-like blooms. LW
