toxicity of round up for animals

Asked August 23, 2013, 3:45 PM EDT

we want to transition our parkway to bark mulch and are told by landscapers that the ground will have to be sprayed to avoid instant weed regrowth. we're concerned and wondered if Round up is okay to use without habitat damage, or if another product is preferable.

Round up (glyphosate) is one of the least toxic herbicides to animals and one of the most safe to use around animals.

It is only effective after weeds are germinated up and growing. It is not effective if one sprays it on bark mulch before the weeds come up.
