Rootstocks for dwarfing trees

Asked August 18, 2013, 3:10 PM EDT

Hello, My name is LeRoy Demarest and I live in greenwood, DE. I am trying to source rootstocks for dwarfing fruit trees. I live on a little less then .2 acres in town and do not have room for normally sized trees. Ultimately, I would like to espalier the trees as a sort of living fence around the property. I have sourced scions from any variety of fruit trees I would like through the USDA GRINs program. However, rootstocks have been elusive, any help would be great. Thanks, LeRoy

Hi LeRoy,

Raintree Nursery has a variety of rootstocks available to home gardeners: http://www.raintreenursery.com/Rootstocks/. They are located in Washington, so shipping costs from them can be rather high. Here are two other nurseries that have dwarfing rootstocks, however I have no personal experience with either of them:

Thanks so much this is exactly what I've been looking for, I appreciate it very much.
