I know not to compost diseased plants in my home compost, but what about what about sending them to Montgomery County's yard waste program. I am especially concerned about plants that I am pretty sure have Southern Blight. I understand that the sclerotia are heat resistant. Should I just trash those, and other plants with disease/pest problems. Thanks for your help.

Montgomery County Maryland southern blight

We'd recommend that you contact Montgomery County's recycling and composting service at 240-777-6400. Montgomery County's yard waste goes to Maryland Environmental Services and is made into LeafGro, which is a controlled hot composted product, but we don't whether their process would kill Southern Blight spores.
