Interseeding pumpkins

Asked August 1, 2013, 12:27 PM EDT

My pumpkins are getting ready to vine and I was wondering if interseeding them between the rows with oats would be a compatible. I have read about several different crops but I think oats might be the best but I am not sure. I live in Venango Co. and it is August 1st. Thank you.

I'm not sure oats is the best answer. They will grow tall by October when you want to harvest the pumpkins. I might opt for rye or annual ryegrass. These will remain short and are relatively inexpensive to see. Both will establish quickly and then provide cover over the winter and into next spring as well.
