Bronze Birch Borer problem

Asked July 28, 2013, 1:45 PM EDT

I believe I have a problem with Bronze Birch Borer in my white birch trees. What can I do to get rid of them, please?

Bronze birch borer treatment is mainly spraying an insecticide on the trunk and larger branches yearly to provide a barrier the insects can't penetrate. Soil drench systemic insecticides (imidacloprid) also are used. Still, it seems like it is rarely effective long term, since it seems to me that I never see white birches that survive long-term. See https://utahpests.usu.edu/ipm/htm/advisories/landscape/articleID=17395#bbb for a short article about it.
