Why does my maple tree show orange leaves before Fall? How can I get more iron to it without injuring the bark?
Larimer County Colorado
It depends on which variety/cultivar of maple you have as to what color the leaves turn in the fall. Most of the ones I see turn yellow. I haven't seen orange leaves associated with maple trees before, but it's possible. If your tree is suffering from iron chlorosis (yellow leaves where the veins stay green), you can apply a chelated iron as either a foliar application or a soil drench. If the tree is turning fall colors already, it usually is an indication of stress of some sort on the tree. It could also be the elevation you live at and the temperatures associated with that elevation is inducing the tree to turn fall colors.
