Without seeing the mosquito, it is difficult to correctly identify insect species. A reasonable guess however is the Asian Tiger mosquito. The products you mention can repel mosquitoes but length between application and exposure can influence how repellent the product is. Also, how uniform the coverage of the product can influence how repellent it is. Recent research found personnel diffusers made by various companies can reduce mosquito attacks and these can be found at various stores in our area. These are devices that typically clip onto the person and the repellent is dispersed around the individual. There has been testing done with essential oils with some success however I do not know if these are commercially available in our area. A couple of these were 'BiteBlocker' and is made with (2% soybean oil) and Repel (p-methane-3,8-diol). Note: mention of products is not an endorsement and omittion is not a criticism of product efficacy.
