Dog friendly plants

Asked July 13, 2013, 7:57 AM EDT

Is there a list of plants that are safe for dogs? Or conversely, a list of plants that are toxic? What are good choices in plantings for a pet friendly environment?

There are definitely plants in the environment for your dog to avoid and many of them don't know the difference. It is good that you are concerned.

One thing to watch for are mushrooms of any variety in your yards. They are very toxic for small animals and children My number one caution plant.

Here is a website that you can read about poisonous plants: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poisoncontrol/plants/

Good starters for you would be mahonia, euonymous, pittosporum, roses, deutzia and fatsia.
