flowers for Naubinway Michigan

will be moving to cottage in Naubinway Michigan on Lake Michigan. What flowers can we plant that will thrive in the climate. Will roses survive? Others?

According to the USDA Hardiness Zone Map Naubinway is in zone 5a. Technically zone 5 plants should do fine this includes many of those plants we find in the lower peninsula. This includes roses. To be safe choose zone 4 plants. Note that the growing season will be much shorter .
