I have a dark grey rodent(s), I think it is a vole, living under some concrete steps in my yard. What is the best way to get rid of them. Lots of kids and pets around, although I don't personally have a pet. I am considering flooding the area or digging up the area and filling it in. Any thoughts would be helpful. Traps, poison, profesional, which path is best? They eat grass and have multiple entraces to the area in which they are living.

You will have to identify the animal before a control can be recommended. We cannot get an idea of the size of the hole in your photo. It would be helpful to go the following link (Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Mgmt) and view photos of ground holes (less than 3 inches and greater than 3 inches) made by animals as well as control information.
