Good day, and thank you for using Ask an Expert. I’m certain you and your daughter will have a great time learning about gardening in the Northwest.

Resources for you:
- The OSU Gardening Encyclopedia is at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/ where you can access many university publications. Click on “Catalog” just below the banner, then type a search word in the text box.
- “Grow Your Own” - An overview of vegetable gardening; page 7 lists planting dates. (Portland is in Region 2 and has acid soil, about pH 5.6 to 5.8.) http://ir.library.oregonstate.edu/xmlui/handle/1957/21092 - Monthly garden calendars are here: http://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/gardening-calendar
You might suggest your daughter save the Homes & Gardens section from the Saturday edition of The Oregonian newspaper as it lists talks and demonstrations at various nearby garden centers.

The Multnomah County Master Gardeners can offer assistance, too. Their office is in Montgomery Park, 2701 NW Vaughn St., Suite 450, Portland, OR 97210. Office hours for phone calls and drop-ins are 10 AM to 2 PM, Monday through Friday. Phone: 503–445–4608; email: mcmastergardeners@yahoo.com.

Enjoy your visit!
