Why are the new buds growing on our geraniums small and brown? They are planted in pots and are in the sun/partial shade.

Allegany County Maryland flowers botrytis

The buds on your geraniums may have been damaged by a late frost or are damaged because of a disease called botrytis (gray mold). Simply lightly prune the plants or pinch them back to remove the damaged buds. There should be plenty of time for them regrow and produce more flower buds.
