Maggots on Kitchen Floor

Asked June 4, 2013, 2:42 PM EDT

This morning I found a scattering of maggots on my kitchen floor. They were good sized and were coming from no aparent source. There were none in the trash can and I can't find anywhere else that they may have come from. I also found a few by the kitchen door to outside and in the adjacent living room. Putting all the maggots together makes it about 50 or so and and almost half an inch each, it is kind of disturbing. After gathering them up and putting them into a jar, I have only found one or two more. Where could they have come from and how did they get so big before coming inside? What should I do with them?

These are fly maggots which indicate that there is either garbage or something dead around, perhaps a dead mouse under the refrigerator. vw
