Or is this a Cherokee Rose?

Our best guess based on photo evidence and descriptions is that the one with the yellow centers/anthers is the Cherokee rose. Their petals are velvety and overlap and are born singly at the end of a lateral branch. Their branches are described as 'excessively thorny'.

The other photo is a wild blackberry - also very thorny.
