Is a permit required to raise tilapia in a closed loop system? If yes, where can the permits be purchased and how much does it cost? Thanks

Hi! Thanks for your question.
I checked with my colleague Matt Parker in the Sea Grant Extension program, and he told me you do need a permit to raise tilapia in a closed loop system. The person at DNR to speak with about this permit is Karl Roscher. His phone number is 410.260.8313 and his email is kroscher@dnr.state.md.us.
The website for Maryland's Aquaculture Coordinating Council is at this link:

Please contact me directly if you hit any dead ends and I will connect you to my aquaculture colleagues. My email is jdinding@umd.edu.
Thanks!
