Bats in My Attic

Asked May 17, 2013, 9:07 AM EDT

This week, I noticed 14 bats flying into my attic. I had not noticed them before, have no idea how long they have been in my attic, and have no idea how many more may be living there. I believe they are bats, but could be wrong. I have no idea what to do. I have received loads of counsel from friends, from installing electronic devices to chase them away to spending thousands of dollars to have a professional company come remove them to reaching out to the UMB College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. I would value any counsel on my optimal next steps. Note that I have two kids in the house (1 year old and 5 years old).

Bats in the attic are best handled by putting in a pipe that will allow the bats to get out but not back in and sealing all other access points. http://icwdm.org/handbook/mammals/mam_d5.pdf
