Tiger Beetles (Cicindela purpurea)

Asked May 13, 2013, 11:22 AM EDT

Do tiger beetles (Cincendela purpurea) eject a chemical when sensing danger? My cat approached a tiger beetle and jumped back quickly. She squinted her eyes as if in pain and had an awful odor around her head. I rinsed her eyes and head to get rid of whatever it was, and she seemed to have effects lasting no more than 30 minutes or so.

I'm not finding anything that mentions tiger beetles having the ability to eject a chemical. I'm glad your cat recovered so quickly.
