Unidentified Flower

Asked May 13, 2013, 11:02 AM EDT

I have an unusual flower that happened to pop up in our garden this season. It's not anything that we are familiar with and is very vibrant pink petals with a pale yello/green center that looks like a 7 pointed star. The stem and leaves are a blue/green color and initially we though it was a sunflower or a general weed. Can you take a look and advise what this plant is?

Hi, Looks kind of like a selection of Oriental poppy. Thanks, David RodriguezExtension Horticulturist- Bexar County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service3355 Cherry Ridge, Suite 212San Antonio, TX 78230210-467-6575

Fantastic! Unfortunately we pulled up another one of the plants that was growing and left this one alone. We will keep an eye on it and save the seeds for future cultivation.

Thank You!
