I seem to have an infestation of small worms that look like bag worms but no bags. They are eating the new leaves on the trees and you can't get in the house without having them all over you. There are thousands of them covering railings, the siding on the house, outdoor furniture etc. What can be done about them?

We believe the infestation of small worms you are describing are cankerworms. We have been getting many calls and emails from folks in southern Maryland about this. It sounds like the ones you have are finished feeding in the trees and are looking for a place to pupate and will cause no further damage to your landscape. You can spray them off the house or furniture with the hose, sweep them up and dispose of them in the trash.
